The Fire that Catches On

Author's Note: I wrote this to tell you the themes of the story and to tell you why you would like it.

Catching Fire is an amazing book full of love and competition. There sometimes is too much love but a lot of times it fits well into the book; it is just perfect for that moment. Also, there is so much competition and it’s good in the book because it happens in real life. This is a good book because it uses love and competition which can help or hurt someone.

Love is such a different thing. When you are really in love it may feel good but it can blind you from something like someone elses pain or sorrow. That happens a lot in real life and in this book. Katniss is in love with one guy when another is in love with her; then the guy that likes her is hurt that she doesn’t like him back and she doesn’t see his pain. I have never loved anybody but I’ve liked someone and it hurts when they don’t like you back. I hate when it that happens but you have to learn to move on because the person you like is not always going to like you.

Competition happens in everyone’s life and makes sports and video games fun but also can be terrible. Say for instance you were playing basketball against your little sister, if you were too competitive like me you would beat her and make her mad or start to cry. When you are competitive against people in your grade it helps because you want to win and try hard to do that. Katniss is very competitive and wants to win all the time. While she was in the arena she would never give up. She faced her fears straight in the eye and went up against it. Katniss was scared to kill people but if it took that to get back to her family she would do it and she did.

Overall Catching Fire is a very well written book that uses love and competition in very good spots in the book. It gives you both sides of love and competition that lets you see that bad side and the good side.
