Dreams

What types of figurative language are used in this piece? They use metaphors and personifications.
Why does the author use this language? Because he wants to put a picture in a persons head to really understand the topic.
What impact does this language have on the way the reader envisions it? It makes the reader see what he's saying in their head. When he says "life is a barren field of frozen snow", he wants you to think that life without dreams is nothing just like the field. So you imagine that as life in your head.
