Trojan War vs Gladiator

The Trojan War rages on as Achilles slashes down Trojan after Trojan to help the Spartans win the war. Little does he know that he will be killed by a wimpy man with the help of Apollo. Achilles kills Hector and at that point Paris picks up the bow and shoots at Achilles. The arrow falls short but then Apollo guides it to Achilles heal. Paris watches and Achilles dies right then and there. Achilles is almost exactly the same as Maximus Decimus Meridius from "Gladiator". They're style of fighting is almost identical and they are both killed in a unbelievable way by cowards.

In the Trojan War Achilles was a brave warrior that was thought never to be killed. He fights and kills many not having a fear in the world. He ends up getting shot in the heal by a coward and dies immediately. Maximus is the same exact way but he is the leader of the Roman army. He gets into the gladiator system and ends up beating everyone. After that he gets challenged by the emperor and the emperor is a wimp also. They both end up dying but before hand the emperor stabbed Maximus so he would be weak.

As you can see they are both much alike. Both of them helped their country and died for it. They also were both killed by cowards in an absolutely outrageous way in the end.

Becoming the Crow

Cause and effect is a very important part in a story. It makes the story what it is and helps with the main plot very much so. In “The Dark City” by Catherine Fisher the main climax makes the story really excited. That is where the cause and effect is brought in. The main climax in the story was defiantly the part where they reached the Crows room and Galen becomes the Crow and gets his powers back. It made everything tense and nervous but ended up fine. You need cause and effect to create the climax it obviously helped the climax in this story.

Many different scenes added up to the main climax. One part, was when they were in the mansion above the Crows lair. They needed to know how far away their enemy was so Galen told Raffi, “Sense lines, now.” Sense lines are lines that Relic Masters can send out and when someone crosses them they’ll know. Another scene that added up to become the climax was when they were hunting down the thief. It stole money from a lord and he wanted Raffi and Galen to get the money back in return for the blue box the lord had taken from them. They needed to travel to the fallen city to get it back and that’s where the Crow’s lair is. Galen decided for them to take up his “offer” and go after the thief. Galen then said, “Let’s hope he doesn’t use up all its power.” The third scene was when Galen lost his powers. He was so powerful and then he was examining a relic (special items made by the Makers that hold power) and it exploded. He needed his powers back if he and Raffi wanted to stay alive. The only place they could go in hope to get them back was the fallen city.

With those being the causes there was a very special outcome out of it. They finally reached the Crow’s lair. Galen reached the Crow’s work table and the Crow became Galen. It told them, “In time the Makers will return.” The Crow also said to do this they need to keep the Order going and keep people believing. Galen then returned to himself but the Crow left him with his powers back. At that point in time the enemy reached the room but Galen didn’t panic, he just erased their memory and sent them away. There could have been many different ways for this story to go but I would think that the bad guys would have broken in earlier. Then the Crow would not have showed up then and Galen would not have his powers.

In conclusion the climax cannot be without cause and effect. I think that the stories are all pulled together by cause and effect. A story would defiantly be nothing without this.

Infiltrating

In "The Trojan Horse" by Virgil, Greece used a trojan horse to infiltrate the city of Troy. Many things like this happen today. From the trojan horse that screws up emails to the CIA. Are nation uses and used many spies to get inside other countries databases. We wanted to know what other countries were and are planning so we could find a way to stop or beat them to it. Take the movie Argo for example. They sent in Ben Affleck to help get the people from America out. He need to infiltrate the country and fake a Canadian movie to get in. It takes skill and luck to get an infiltration working and the Greeks and Americans have that.

Physical Fitness

Physical fitness is an essential part of life. If you want to live a long prospering life you need to be healthy. People also like to play sports and do activities that require you to be active. You need to be in shape to play these types of activities. There are so many ways I benefit from being physically active and I am very grateful for it.

To begin with, physical fitness is important is because I get to play soccer. Soccer is one of my greatest passions in life. I would really want to play it for my career. If I was not in shape I would not be very good at soccer or I might have not played soccer at all. In playing soccer I get to be with my friends and play the only sport I want to play professionally. It also gives me the opportunity to be myself because it doesn't matter what you look like. Soccer lets me be me and shine no matter what I look like. It’s the one thing that I really excel at and it’s all because of physical fitness.

While playing soccer is dependent on physical fitness, the more important thing about physical fitness is staying healthy. Without a healthy lifestyle I could be in very bad condition and my immune system would not work properly. If that were to happen I would be more like to get sick and the sickness could get worse and worse. No matter if you’re out of shape and sick or out of shape and not it is still bad. I would hate to be not able to run because I’m too lazy and tired to run. Being out of shape wouldn't get me anywhere in life. Even in a job later in life it would be no fun to have your work friends out doing something awesome while you just outright can’t because of the shape you’re in.

Those other two factors are great but friendship is one other thing that physical fitness helps with. You can get together with your friends and do something active. It could be either playing basketball or soccer in a recreational league or just a pickup game. You could also be running partners or a spotter for one another. While you are exercising you can meet someone new too. You never know, they could be the friend you've been waiting for your whole life. Sometimes you could get into such a deep conversation that you don’t even realizing you’re working out. Overall friends help you get in shape and working out with a friend is the right way to go.

What I am really trying to say overall is that living life unhealthy and out of shape would be no fun and I would not be able to do the things I love. Health is one really important part of life and you shouldn't live it like a unhealthy blob of gelatin that leaves a decrepit trail of slime.

Sacrifices for Looks

Beauty is a tough thing in most countries. People sacrifice and give up a lot of things to try to look pretty. I think people should stay the way the are so they don't look fake like Barbie or Ken. They should stay the way they are because inner beauty is what really matters but people obviously don't think that,

In "Ribbons" the grandma had her feet bound when she was little to look pretty. That is a terrible thing to happen just to try to look pretty. Now she has to look back on that and wonder why her parents did that when it didn't work. Her feet are dis formed and painful. Girls in America do the same things these days. Some get plastic surgery on their face to look better. Others wear heels to look more fashion forward. Woman put up with pain and pay a lot of money just to look pretty.

Woman may do things to look good but men also do it too. Some men use steroids to look in shape. They make the body look good but make you feel worse. Also they will buy very expensive tight jackets to be dressed well. Men will sometimes even get piercings or tattoos to look "cool". Those people will have to live looking like that when they are older. Tattoos stay with you for your entire life and you will look weird when you are older with them.

Naive Mrs. Wilson

Mrs. Wilson has one bad case of naiveness. She wants to be nice but doesn't realize at all what she is saying.  Boyd must of felt weird about that because he lives well and Mrs. Wilson acts like he is poor and would take anything for free. Racism has stopped a lot since then but they're are still people who do it. Stereotyping is still pretty strong. People from the south always stereotype us for drinking milk and eating cheese. Then we think they all have southern accents and eat chicken. I don't like any of this at all and I would really like for this to stop.

A Clean, Well-Lighted Room

What is one event, character, or plot element that is similar to a modern text/film? Explain.

The old drunk man. In modern movies like dramas there is sometimes a man who gets drunk. Then there are two people talking about what happened to the man. In Batman this exact thing happened. This woman tricked this man and took him to a bar and he got drunk. Then there were some people talking about him. The Hangover is another movie where this happened. They left their friend on the roof and then were talking about him and realized he was gone. The whole movie was them looking for him.

The video made out of a Clean, Well-Lighted Room was a very nice story but I thought the movie was alright. The director did a great job with the effects and sound but the actors were very boring. The only reason why I liked it was because of that.

The music was the first reason I liked the movie. It started out kind of creepy while looking at one building with its lights on at night. During the movie it got all sad while talking about the old man. When the waiters were talking about the old man the music got sad. I liked that because it made me feel sad.
